What does video to text mean?

Video to text (also called a video transcript, or turning an MP4 or MOV to text) means taking the speech inside a video file and writing it out as readable text. The video itself is not changed — you get the words that were spoken, usually with the time each line starts, so you can jump back to that moment in the clip.

It is used for meeting and lecture recordings, interviews, screen recordings, vlogs and demos: anything where the useful part is what someone said and you would rather read, search or quote it than scrub through the timeline.

Which video formats can I convert to text?

MP4, MOV and WebM, plus anything else your browser can decode. What matters is the audio track: if the browser can play the sound, it can be transcribed. Files up to 100 MB.

How long does a video take?

Audio is processed in 30-second passes, so a 10-minute recording takes longer than a 30-second clip. The first run also downloads the speech model to your browser.

Is the video uploaded to a server?

No. The speech model runs inside your own browser and the file stays on your device. No account, no upload, no queue.

Can I do MP4 to text on my phone?

Which languages work?

English. The tool identifies the spoken language first and shows a short notice instead of a guess when the audio is not English.
