Where is Show transcript on YouTube?
Open the video’s watch page and expand its description if necessary. Choose Show transcript when available. Select a caption line to jump to that part of the video. This follows YouTube’s transcript instructions; the position and wording can vary by device and interface language.
How do I copy a YouTube transcript without timestamps?
Select and copy the caption text in YouTube’s transcript panel. If its menu offers Toggle timestamps, hide the times first; that control is not guaranteed in every layout. Paste into a document and check line breaks, names, numbers and caption annotations. A transcript reflects captions and may differ from the speaker’s original script. In InstaScript, a successfully loaded track can be switched to Plain text before Copy or TXT export.

How do I choose a language and find a quote?
If InstaScript returns several tracks, choose one in the language selector and submit the link again. Available languages depend on the video’s tracks; the selector does not generate translations. Search Find in this transcript, then use Previous or Next. Locate caption reveals the line; a source time link opens YouTube in a new tab at a whole-second position. Search is literal, does not span caption lines, and does not edit the captions. Recheck the quote against the source before using it.

After a successful lookup, choose TXT for plain notes, Markdown for a note with source links, or SRT for timed subtitles. Timestamps and Plain text control the text-note presentation; SRT retains cue timing. Markdown exports caption words, not an AI summary. Open the saved file to check its language and timing. These are browser-created downloads, with no account history.
What should I do when the transcript will not load?
Read the message before deciding what is missing. YouTube can return an access challenge, a failed request, or no readable caption track. Try the video on YouTube, check the caption controls there, and retry later if appropriate. A failed lookup alone does not prove that captions do not exist. If you have a permitted local copy with English speech, Video to Text is a separate browser recognition route; it is not a YouTube URL downloader.
Questions that come up while using a YouTube transcript
Why can’t I find Show transcript?
Expand the description, allow the page to finish loading and check the video’s caption controls. Try another supported browser or layout when appropriate. Missing controls may reflect caption availability or the current interface/access state. Do not conclude that no captions exist solely from a missing button.
Can I get the transcript on my phone?
Start in the video description and look for Show transcript if it is offered. App and browser layouts can differ. Alternatively, copy the Share link into InstaScript in your browser. A desktop-site request is an option to try, not a guarantee that a transcript control will appear. Native mobile-app operation was not verified in this update.
Can I transcribe a YouTube video that has no captions?
The YouTube caption reader cannot create a missing track. Ask the publisher for captions, or use an authorized local audio/video copy with the separate English-only Video to Text workflow. Its language detection, model loading and browser decoding limits apply; YouTube caption languages do not extend speech recognition language support.
Why is the transcript in the wrong language?
Check which caption track was returned. If several are listed in InstaScript, change the language and submit the link again. A single-track result has no language choice. An auto-generated label identifies an automatic track; punctuation alone does not establish who wrote it.
Can I search for one word in a long YouTube video?
Some native transcript panels offer a search field. In InstaScript, Find in this transcript searches the loaded track, with Enter for next, Shift+Enter for previous and Escape to clear. Plain text view does not make cross-caption phrases searchable. A new lookup or language change clears the search.
Why does a video with visible captions still fail here?
The lookup service, a direct caption request or Google’s browser check may fail independently of caption availability. Read the specific error. Connection restrictions and blocked Google scripts can affect the browser route. This update encountered a YouTube sign-in challenge and no readable track from the site; it did not verify a successful caption retrieval.
How do I fix mistakes in a downloaded YouTube SRT?
The caption reader is read-only. Save SRT after a successful lookup and open Subtitle Editor to correct words or timing. Review changes against a recording you are allowed to use. The editor does not automatically translate or align the captions to audio.
Can I turn a lecture transcript into notes or a summary?
Save the captions as TXT or Markdown, then write and verify your own notes with links to the relevant video times. InstaScript does not automatically summarize, fact-check or recover the presenter’s original script. Check names, numbers and quotations against the recording.
Is the whole video uploaded, and are my searches saved?
The caption route sends the video link to the server, which queries YouTube and may cache successful lookup responses including captions for up to one hour. Selected tracks may be fetched directly by the browser, including a Google bot check. It does not upload or transcribe video audio. Caption search and file export run locally; opening source links contacts YouTube. There is no account transcript history.
Can I republish the transcript as an article?
Obtaining captions does not transfer rights to the video or its words. Use material you have permission to reuse, attribute sources where appropriate and write your own analysis. Do not treat a downloadable transcript as authorization to publish the full text.
