How to Add Captions on TikTok: Check Before Posting

Prepare, correct and preview your TikTok captions

Caption wording, timing and final appearance each need a check. InstaScript can produce and edit a subtitle draft, while final presentation happens in TikTok or your video editor.

1. Choose a caption workflow you can actually access

Check the caption options present in your version of TikTok and the current TikTok accessibility help. Native feature availability and controls vary. This guide does not show an unverified mobile menu or assume the publishing screen accepts an SRT file.

Check: You know whether you will edit native captions or use an external video editor.

2. Correct the words and timing before styling

For an existing local English video up to 100 MB, use TikTok Transcript to recognize browser-decodable speech. Review numbers, names and words at fast cuts. Open valid cues in Subtitle Editor to adjust text and times. Text edits alone do not retime a cue; no automatic translation is provided.

Check: Every important phrase is audible and appears during the appropriate interval.

3. Preview the final video in its destination

Check the first and final cue, cuts, line breaks and overlap with important objects or controls. An SRT/VTT export is a separate text file; InstaScript does not render or burn captions into video. Use a destination that actually supports your chosen workflow and inspect the completed video there.

Check: The final visible captions, rather than just the downloaded file, have been reviewed.

More questions and limits

What processing and privacy boundaries apply?

Local decoding, recognition, replay, edits and downloads run in your browser. Model resources need network access, but the local recording and transcript are not uploaded. There is no account history or saved cloud project; download your work before closing the tab. Same-origin editor transfer keeps the cues and recording local between tabs. Instagram URL retrieval and YouTube caption lookup have separate server-assisted privacy boundaries.

Where should I continue?
